Medici Residency Daniel Arasse with the École française de Rome
Art history
Carolina Sprovieri (1998, Italy) is a doctoral student at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where she is working on a dissertation titled « Maisons-ateliers féminines et psycho-biographie. Les effets et les limites des processus de patrimonialisation » (“Women’s art studios and psychobiography. The effects and limits of heritage designation processes”), under the supervision of David Lapoujade.
She has published two monographs: Carol Rama and Louise Bourgeois (Electa, 2024), Carol Rama (from the series Casa come me, Electa, 2026), and has recently contributed to exhibition catalogs for the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Pompidou-Metz, and the Galleria Borghese. She is also the author of an article published in the Cahiers du MNAM (Summer 2026), supported by the Research Grant from the Friends of the Centre Pompidou (2023).
Her residency project focuses on Titina Maselli (1924–2005) as part of the exhibition Le voyage du dialogue (Villa Medici, 1986). This exhibition will serve as a prime vantage point for understanding two fundamental aspects of her career: her transnational trajectory and her assertion of exile as a foundational condition of her artistic practice. Curated by Jean-Marie Drot, this was the very first exhibition at the French Academy to explore the journey of Italians to Paris through the work of four contemporary artists: Leonardo Cremonini, Valerio Adami, Titina Maselli, and Cesare Peverelli.
