Biography

Anna Meschiari (1987) has lived and worked in Occitanie since 2014, when she graduated from the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués in Vevey. Graduating with a degree in Anthropology (Université Jean Jaurès, Toulouse) in 2024, she is also co-director of RIGA (Saint-Pierre-de-Trivisy, Tarn) an associative project offering creative residencies in the field of contemporary art. In 2023, she joined Documents d’Artistes Occitanie. Her work is based on visual content linked to coding – itself linked to archives, architecture or textiles – which she endeavors to shift from one medium to another.

Project

For her residency at Villa Medici, Anna Meschiari will revive the figure of Marta Lonzi (1938-2008), a member, along with her sister Carla, of Rivolta Femminile in Rome and Milan in the 1970s. An architect, Marta Lonzi created installation structures as well as living and working spaces. Her conception of architecture, in praise of Francesco Borromini (1599-1667), architect of detail and structural empiricism, is based, in its radicality, on figures from the past, far from the idea of tabula rasa, with pre-eminence of the author, of a certain modernism of the time. Marta Lonzi’s thinking, based on archives consulted on site, will be at the heart of a new creation.

This residency is part of a partnership with Occitanie.
