Alice Brygo

Alice Brygo (France, 1996) is a filmmaker and artist. Born in Montpellier, she graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 2019, and from Le Fresnoy in 2022. Her practice straddles the border between documentary methods, fantasy cinema and installation. Her work bears witness to a generational turmoil in the face of a fragile age. Blending raw realism and surrealist fiction, the artist turns this turmoil into the material for tales of twilight dreamland. She reconstitutes and displaces real-life situations where characters from different communities meet to explore how beliefs and imaginations are constructed.

In residence at Villa Medici, Alice Brygo will develop a film and video installation project on tourism and the fascinating power of ruins. Several civilizations will enter into dialogue through the eyes of visitors to the remains of the previous one. It will be a triptych, the picture of a collective wandering cut into three as we are accustomed to cutting time: past, present and future. Blending historical reconstruction, real-life cinema and science fiction, the aim of this work will be to take a look at a contemporary practice of mass tourism.
