Liliane Bettencourt Prize for the Intelligence de la main®
The French Academy in Rome, in collaboration with the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, is hosting a one-week residency at Villa Medici for a group of artisans and designers who have received the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for Intelligence de la Main®.
In 2026, a call for applications will be issued for the winners of the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for Intelligence de la Main®, offering them the opportunity to participate in a one-week residency at Villa Medici.
Organized around hands-on workshops, visits, and meetings with artists, curators, and professionals in the cultural sector, this program aims to highlight exceptional skills and foster exchanges among the various practitioners of the arts and crafts.

Theme: How does memory influence the present?
Whether historical, intellectual, sensory, or gestural, memory shapes creation and fuels the transmission of skills. The various meetings, tours, and roundtable discussions organized throughout the week will provide an opportunity to explore these themes from different perspectives.

Liliane Bettencourt Award for Intelligence de la Main®
Every year since 1999, the Foundation has honored exceptional craftsmanship and creativity in the field of the arts and crafts through the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for the Intelligence de la Main® and its three categories: “Exceptional Talents,” dedicated to artisans; “Dialogues,” open to artisans who collaborate with designers; and “Pathways,” dedicated to organizations in the field of artistic crafts.
