In the historic salons of Villa Medici, artist Nico Vascellari directs the performance of singer Calcutta, between light effects, scenography and music. The intriguing staging reveals a unique universe, created by the two artists, in which sound and image come together, resonating within the heritage of Villa Medici. It will also be possible to access Villa Medici’s Terrasse du Bosco for free bar service during the event.

Calcutta

His album Mainstreamreleased in 2015, turned genres, affiliations and definitions on their head, going double platinum. Calcutta marked a frontier in the way independent music is understood, starting out as an outsider, a cult artist, with a path outside the canonical patterns of the music industry, but attracting ever-increasing curiosity towards himself. This success is also evidenced by the triple platinum status achieved by Oroscopo one of the most played songs of summer 2016, and by songs such as Cosa mi manchi a fare, Frosinone, Gaetano which have now racked up millions of views on Youtube and streaming platforms. At the end of 2017, Calcutta reappeared on the scene with Orgasmoa new song, reaching platinum status. At the beginning of February, it was the turn of Pesto (double platinum), further boosting enthusiasm and expectations. On May 25, 2018, the new album finally arrives.

It’s called Evergreen (platinum) and is anticipated by the third single Paracetamol (double platinum). Summer 2018 marked his return to the stage with a fascinating date in two diametrically opposed but equally evocative venues: Latina’s Stadio Francioni, in his hometown, and Verona’s Arena. 2019 opened with a sold-out tour of Italy’s major venues. At the end of May 2019, Calcutta released two previously unreleased singles, Due Punti and Sorriso (Milano Dateo)the latter going platinum. He returns to the stage during the summer with 14 dates at the most prestigious summer festivals, from Lucca Summer Festival to Collisioni, Rock In Roma and Milano Summer Festival. In the autumn of the same year, he brought the Evergreen adventure to a close with a series of concerts abroad in the main European capitals.
In recent years, during his recording hiatus, he has edited the soundtrack for Rai Radio2 and the jingles for Gr, Meteo and Onda Verde, and has stepped up his songwriting activity, which had already emerged in previous years. Among the latest, the song Mare di Guai by Ariete, presented at the Sanremo 2023 Festival. He also collaborated with Marracash on the song ‘Laura ad honorem’ on the album Noi, loro, gli altri.
