Le Goût des autres (2002) is Agnès Jaoui’s directorial debut. This romantic comedy tells the story of Castella, a melancholy entrepreneur who falls in love with Clara, an actress who gives him English lessons. Le Goût des autres was a critical and public success. It won several awards, including four Césars, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
French actress Agnès Jaoui has worked with some of the world’s greatest directors: Patrice Chéreau, Philippe Muyl, Cédric Klapisch, Alain Resnais (for whom she won the César for Best Supporting Actress in 1998), Christophe Blanc, Carine Tardieu, Bruno Podalydès and Blandine Lenoir, and more recently with Frédéric Sojcher, Noé Debré, Marie Garel-Weiss…
She’s also a successful writer/director, with no fewer than 9 screenplays to her credit in collaboration with Jean-Pierre Bacri, as well as 5 feature films and 2 plays. Their collaboration has been rewarded with 5 Césars, a Palme d’Or for best screenplay, an Oscar nomination for best foreign film, and numerous other awards. She also directed episodes of season 2 of the series En Thérapie for the ARTE channel.
Since December 2021, she has also been President of the Cinémathèque de Toulouse.
