Villa Medici presents the Italian premiere of La Petite Dernière (2025), in the presence of director Hafsia Herzi. This film tells the story of 17-year-old Fatima, torn between her faith, her emancipation and the discovery of new desires. Presented in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, the film has already won several awards, including the Queer Palm, the Best Actress prize at Cannes and the César for Best New Actress for lead actress Nadia Melliti.
Fatima, 17, is the youngest daughter. She lives in the suburbs with her sisters, in a happy and loving family.
A good student, she enters a philosophy university in Paris and discovers a whole new world. As she begins her life as a young woman, she emancipates herself from her family and its traditions. Fatima begins to question her identity. How can she reconcile her faith with her budding desires?

Hafsia Herzi began her career as an actress in Abdellatif Kechiche’s La Graine et le Mulet, for which she won a César and the Marcello-Mastroianni prize at the Venice Film Festival. As an actress, she has worked with directors such as André Téchiné, Bertrand Bonello, Patricia Mazuy, Iris Kaltenbach, Sylvie Verheyde, Teddy Lussi-Modeste and Radu Mihaileanu. Her first two films as director were selected at Cannes. Tu mérites un amour, selected for Critics’ Week, met with great critical success in 2019, while Bonne Mère won the Prix d’Ensemble at Un Certain Regard 2021, awarded by Andrea Arnold.
