Seized by the beauty of “La Maison”, Olivier Martinaud wanted us to hear this strange, intense text, and asked Nicolas Repac to compose the music.
This short, previously unpublished story by French writer Julien Gracq (1910-2007) is about a fascination. It is the brief but repeated initial vision of a house, glimpsed on every journey from a bus crossing the countryside during the Occupation, that prompts the narrator to set off, walking alone through the undergrowth to approach the house. Through the story of this sensual, contemplative and interiorized journey, La Maison unfolds, like a plot, the birth of a desire. A sensitive, hallucinatory journey through melodies and electronic layers.
