Virtuoso harpsichordist, conductor and founder of Capriccio StravaganteSkip Sempé has attended the Académie française de Rome since 1987, where he hosts, in association with the Piccola Accademia di Montisi the Piccola Accademia di Montisiannual seminars since 2013.
On the occasion of his next masterclass, Skip Sempé will offer a polyphonic harpsichord concert in the Grand Salon, accompanied by his 6 students.
Skip Sempé hails from New Orleans. He studied music, musicology, organology and art history at the Oberlin Conservatory in the USA. He then completed his training in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt. As a soloist, he is particularly renowned for his affinity with works from the Elizabethan period, as well as French composers for harpsichord such as Chambonnières, d’Anglebert, Forqueray, Louis and François Couperin, Rameau, Bach and Scarlatti. His fame is closely linked to his talent for improvisation and composition.
The Piccola Accademia di Montisi, founded in 2007 in Tuscany, and with which Skip Sempé collaborates, organizes masterclasses with harpsichord masters on historic instruments. Since its creation, over 500 students from 45 different countries have received exceptional instruction on the Academy’s instruments.
