Carnival at Villa Medici

An evening of programming – concerts, dances, processions and mask competitions – designed to bring the great hours of the Medici carnival back to life for Roman audiences! Fifteen years after the last carnival at Villa Medici, the residents decided to revive this tradition. This year, it takes the form of a masked ball on the theme of “Chimeras”, inspired by the pagan rites of carnivals in southern Italy and France. It’s an invitation to join the “topsy-turvy world” of carnival: masked, costumed, unrecognizable… Fabulous, bizarre and composite chimeras, made of different materials and assemblages between animal and vegetable. Experience duality. Join us on March 22 for a grand improvisation, a nocturnal farce, a whimsical saturnalia, a party where everyone is the protagonist. Come and wake up the earth by dancing to chase away winter and celebrate the arrival of spring, bring along objects to ring (bells, rattles, hochets, maracas), take part in the “funerale di carnevale” and the other original episodes we’re preparing for you!
