On the occasion of her return to Villa Medici as guest artist, Eva Jospin takes over three locations: the Gypsothèque, Balthus’s former studio and Ferdinand de Medici’s Studiolo – also known as the “bird room”. In resonance with the architecture and iconography of the premises, she presents a series of pieces in bronze, cardboard and silk-thread embroidery. Two videos, Carmontelle (2023, 1’20) and Forêt (2023, 6’40), are also presented.
For more than fifteen years, Eva Jospin has been creating imaginary landscapes interweaving ruins, architectural elements, and vegetal motifs. Working with a variety of materials—cardboard, plant fibers, wood, metal, fabric—she brings to life installations with a strong scenographic impact, evoking our childhood dreams, somewhere between mysterious caves and enchanted gardens.
Since its creation in 2016, the Art Club series has brought works by international contemporary artists into dialogue with the heritage of the Académie de France in Rome. Taking the form of visual and plastic interventions scattered throughout the spaces of the Villa Medici (loggias, gardens, salons), this series renews the experience of visiting a place where eras intermingle and unexpected connections arise.
