A video reproducing the interior of a boxing gym, a composition played in the background, painted bronze ashtrays and a container filled with French fries, placed by Valentin Carron in the Neviera, transform the former pavilion in the gardens of the Villa Medici into an “other” place, suspended in time and space, capable of provoking the feeling of disorientation that often occurs in the artist’s work. In fact, his works and installations are often inspired by a repertoire of everyday iconography and iconology. They redefine the original semantic value through a new and sometimes unusual aesthetic, formal and logistical reproduction. In this sense, it’s as if he’s reworking reality, leaving aside a kind of parallel world, invisible in appearance but perceptible on an intellectual level, linked to metaphysical aesthetics that evoke in its own way a renewal of codes. Today’s intervention, La lente et délicieuse glissade, specially conceived for the Académie de France in Rome, is particularly appealing proof of this, not least thanks to the environmental and multisensory character that characterizes his project.
