Ciprian Muresan is one of the leading representatives of the Cluj school, and one of the most refined and sensitive artists of his generation, as demonstrated by the space reserved for him at the last Venice Biennale. His graphic and plastic research often confronts the art of the past (both Renaissance and 20th century), blending the ancient and the contemporary, classical culture and the everyday. At Villa Medici, he will present a series of works assembled in an installation specifically designed for the institution.

The graphic and plastic research of Ciprian Mureşan (Dej, 1977; lives and works in Cluj) blends the past and the anecdotal, classical culture and the everyday. In keeping with his usual processes, in the Chambres du Cardinal he presents a series of previously unpublished works based on historical and artistic elements from different eras, reflecting the setting that hosts them, following the creative intervention of Balthus. This is a series of wax bas-reliefs, entitled 12 pages from Malevič and Film (2018) and taken from Margarita Tupitsyn‘s volume Malevitch and film (2002), in which Kazimir Malevič becomes the subject of her reflections on creation and authoriality in the current context of expression and communication.
