Biography
Pierre de l'Estache, born around 1688 in Paris and died November 28, 1774 in Rome, was a French sculptor. He was responsible for the four statues on the façade of the Saint-Louis des Français church, representing Charlemagne, Saint-Louis, Sainte Clotilde and Sainte Jeanne de Valois. Pierre de l'Estache spent his entire life in Italy. He succeeded in integrating himself into the Roman artistic milieu, and thus fulfilling commissions from the Holy See. He was director of the French Academy in Rome for a short period, from 1737 to 1738. In fact, he only held this position during the transition period between the death of Wleughels and the arrival of Jean-François de Troy.
