Biography

Louis-Nicolas Cabat, born in Paris on December 6, 1812 and died in Paris on March 13, 1893, was a French landscape painter. He was a pupil of Camille Flers. He was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut de France in 1867. Louis-Nicolas Cabat was director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1879 to 1884. Under his directorship, he enhanced the gardens' decor and was responsible for the installation of the bronze copy of Mercury now on the fountain beneath the loggia.
