Biography
Jean-François de Troy, born January 27, 1679 in Paris and died January 26, 1752 in Rome, was a French painter. He was a pupil of his father, François de Troy. He did not win a prize, but was advised by Mansart to Houasse, and left for Rome in April 1699 at his own expense. He entered the Academy on October 6 and left Rome in February 1701. On his return to France, his historical paintings were highly regarded, and he was also in demand for decorative and genre paintings, as well as portraits. Jean-François de Troy was director of the French Academy in Rome from 1738 to 1751.
