Biography

Guillaume Guillon-Lethière, born in Sainte-Anne (Guadeloupe) on January 10, 1760, and died in Paris on April 22, 1832, was a French painter. He took drawing lessons in France as early as 1774, then entered the studio of the King's painter, Gabriel-François Doyen. He also frequented David's studio, although he was never a pupil. Lethière won the Second Grand Prix de peinture in 1784 and went to Rome. He was later director of the French Academy in Rome from 1807 to 1816.
