Biography
Horace Vernet, born June 30, 1789 in Paris, where he died January 17, 1863, was a French painter. His father was the painter Charles-Horace Vernet (1758-1836), who was fellow at the Académie de France in Rome from October 1782 to March 26, 1783. Horace Vernet joined the studio of painter François-André Vincent at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He made a name for himself with his battle paintings. Vernet was director of the French Academy in Rome from 1829 to 1834.
