Résidence Pro 2022

In 2021-2022, the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Medici has launched the pilot edition of the educational programme Résidence Pro!

The first edition of the Residence Pro in a few figures:

  • 15 schools
  • 9 departments of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region
  • 300 students
  • 28 regional sponsor companies
  • 1 week at the Villa Medici in Rome

The start of the 2021 school year marked the launch of the Résidence Pro, a new ambitious educational programme initiated by the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Academic Region, through the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications Forêt Bois Nouvelle-Aquitaine which coordinates all the professional establishments in the region – and an active network of public and private partners in the forestry and wood industry brought together within the Woodrise ecosystem. This first edition honoured the forestry and wood industry, from cabinet making to forestry and wood construction, mobilising more than 300 students from 15 vocational high schools representing the diversity of the territories of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region.

From September 2021, each class taking part in the programme imagined and documented a collective work inspired by a major heritage work in the city of Rome, in accordance with the terms of the Résidence Pro For this exercise, the students were accompanied by their teachers, by the FCBA technological institute (forest, cellulose, wood, construction, furniture) and by 20 regional “sponsor” companies contributing their expertise. This preparatory phase of reflection will culminate in the visit of all the participating high school students to the Villa Medici in Rome in May 2021.

The Proto-Habitat pavilion designed by the two former Villa Medici residents Frédérique Barchelard and Flavien Menu (class of 2019-2020), installed in the Villa Medici gardens as part of the Festival des Cabanes, was used during the Résidence Pro for moments of exchange and conviviality between the participating high school students and the teams.

For this first edition, Villa Medici and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region combined their financial resources to make the Résidence Pro possible, in line with the social commitment of the French Academy in Rome and its partners. For the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, it marked the experimentation of a particularly ambitious way of supporting a high school mobility project in the service of their artistic and cultural education.
