Villa Aperta 6

The sixth edition of Villa Aperta , the pop, electro and rock music festival at the French Academy in Rome, will be held in the frame of the gardens of Villa Medici from 4 to 6 June 2015 . Internationally famous musicians and new talents capable of reinventing styles and musical languages will alternate on the stage in three live evening concerts. Since 2009 Villa Aperta has hosted artists of the caliber of Metronomy, Gesaffelstein, Brodinski, Klaxons, Wire, and many others, often presenting them to the Roman public before their consecration. This year the festival devotes ample space to electronics, in particular the classic French Touch and its techno, hip hop and house music acceptations, up to the stylistic crossover of prog and Afro-beat. Villa Aperta will present highly awaited liveconcerts, new projects and revelation groups. Thursday 4 June the Festival opens with Nicolas Godin , half of the French duo Air , a group that has revolutionized the language of electro-pop, and crossed the film world by signing many soundtracks. Nicolas Godin will present a world premiere of his first solo album, due to be released in August 2015, but also some of Air’s most famous pieces. The musician will be in residence at Villa Medici to work on his new album. The Roman group La Batteria will open the dances. Influenced by progressive synth and vintage dance, the group is inspired by the music of the detective films of the 1970s and 1980s, reinterpreted in an absolutely original style. Another strong name of the evening will be Miss Kittin , undisputed queen of the electroclash, world famous DJ and protagonist of the recent French techno seasons. The festival dedicates the evening of Friday 5 June to French Touch , celebrating the maestros but also looking to the future. After eight years of absence Cassius return to Rome with a DJ set that promises to be epic. Cassius were the first to become known internationally by promoting a precise electro sound. Currently they are working on a new album they will present at Villa Aperta . Before them back to back on the stage, techno Louisahhh !!! & Maelstrom , the new geniuses of the production and mixing of Bromance, the label created by Brodinski. With their latest EP Frictions , they offer an original modern sound. The opening of the line-up, however, will be entrusted to the creativity of Torb , French producer capable of moving between the disk space and the taste for analogue synths. For the first time in Italy, Torb will invade the stage with his futuristic machines. Saturday 6 June the sounds will turn to the afro-beat, with some forays into jazz, funk or rock. The Festival could not miss out on one of the masters of this genre: Tony Allen , among the greatest drummers and percussionists that Africa has ever known. Historical musician from Fela Kuti, Tony Allen will perform at Villa Aperta with an six-piece band. Magic Malik & DJ Oil will give us a live session ranging from jazz, pop to electro. The flute of Malik, an exceptionally talented musician and former fellow of Villa Medici, will enchant the audience. Also on Saturday evening for the first time in Italy, Villa Aperta will present Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains , who will make everyone dance with their indie rock Caribbean afro-beat, halfway between Vampire Weekend and Franz Ferdinand. Their last EP L’Homme Tranquille was partly recorded in Burkina Faso with some local musicians. The evening and the festival closing performance is entrusted to Para One , a mythical figure of transalpine electronic productions, able to move between hip hop, house and techno sounds.
