Call for the selection of fellows 2016-2017

The French Academy in Rome announces the 2016-2017 competition for selecting resident fellows at Villa Medici starting next September for a period of 12 months. The competition is open to French-speaking artists and researchers of all nationalities, aged from 20 to 45 (by December 31, 2016). Applications (in French) can be sent from January 15 to February 17, 2016 through a dedicated website: https://villamedicis.achatpublic.com . Fourteen is the maximum number of fellowships granted to candidates for a sojourn at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici in 2016-2017. Unlike previous years, candidates of all creative disciplines, history of art and art crafts are admitted to the competition provided they deposit a dossier in which the discipline/s they intend to practice are defined. There is no longer a restricted list of disciplines and the phases of pre-selection, audition and selection will be carried out by a single multidisciplinary jury. Candidates can apply from all creative artistic fields as well as history and theory of the arts and the restoration and preservation of artworks or monuments. To take part in the competition, applicants must submit a detailed project indicating their motivations, research themes and type of activities they want to realize during their sojourn. For the selection of the 2016-2017 fellows, the jury, nominated by the French Minister of Culture and Communication, is composed of: Anne Lafont, art historian, maître de conférences in history of modern art (Institut national d’histoire de l’art – Université Paris Est Marne-la-Vallée), ex fellow; Brigitte Lefèvre, choreographer and dancer, dance director at the Opéra de Paris from 1995 to 2014; Bruno Mantovani, composer, director of the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, ex fellow; ORLAN, plastic artist and performer. Muriel Mayette-Holtz, Director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, is the President of the jury; Pierre Oudart, Assistant Director in charge of visual arts at the French Ministry for Culture and Communications (Direction générale de la création artistique), and Thierry Tuot, President of the Board of Directors of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, are also members of the jury.
