Ramata-Toulaye Sy (France, 1986) graduated from the Fémis screenwriting department in 2015. After her studies, she co-wrote Sibel by Ç. Zencirci and G. Giovanetti (2018), then Notre-Dame du Nil by A. Rahimi (2019). In 2021, she decided to move into directing with her first short film, Astel, selected and awarded at over 80 festivals. Two years later, the director returned with her first feature, Banel & Adama. Filmed in the Fulani language, this Senegalese tale earned the director a place in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, and the opportunity to represent Senegal at the Oscars 2024.

Her project at Villa Medici

A little over a year after the premiere of her first film Banel & Adama at Cannes, and an international tour (the film sold in 50 countries) Ramata-Toulaye is finally embarking on the writing of her second feature film. These two weeks at the Villa Medici will enable her to put her first ideas down on paper.
