350th anniversary

On february 11, 2016, French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici celebrates its 350 th anniversary. Founded by Louis XIV in 1666, it has welcomed, since then, generations of artists and scholars. On the days of its anniversary – Saturday 13 and Sunday, February 14 – Villa Medici opens to the public with two free-of-charge artistic initiatives that will narrate the story of this institution in an original fashion. In these two days, from 3 pm to 6 pm, the artists of the French company Delices DADA will propose Performance  Tours with three different itineraries of Villa Medici,  and with the help  of Italian actors: 30 minutes of pure Dadaist spirit, during which these special guides will recount the history of the French Academy in Rome with an irreverent glance and unleashing the imagination. Visits – in French and Italian – will depart every thirty minutes (reservation required at 06 6761311 or [email protected], last entry at 5:30 pm). From 6 pm to 10 pm Villa Medici will be immersed in a magic atmosphere with the Show of light and images of the company Spectaculaires – les allumeurs d’images that will liven up the internal façade of the Villa. An exclusive performance of great suggestion, articulated between the projection of videos and light effects in synchrony with the music, which will celebrate 350 years of the French Academy’s history through unpublished images from its archives, fragments of works and the faces of the fellows  who have contributed to render this institution renowned.
