Orient Express & Co: Itinerary of a Modern Myth

Exhibition from 17 March to 21 May 2023
Curators: Eva Gravayat, Arthur Mettetal
Exhibition co-produced by the Fonds de dotation Orient-Express and the Rencontres d’Arles festival

The exhibition traces the history of the Orient-Express, a technical object that became a cultural icon, and the Rome-Express (which connected Paris to Rome from 1883) through more than 200 works and photographs from the archives of the former Compagnie Internationale des wagons lits.

For the occasion, two contemporary artists reinterpreted the myth: French photographer Sarah Moon, who set out on the real and imaginary tracks of the Orient-Express, and writer and former scholarship holder Mathias Enard, who created a sound docu-fiction especially for the exhibition.

Caroline Mesquita – Art Club #37

Curator: Pier Paolo Pancotto

In partnership with the gallery T293

The Art Club series, a recurring appointment for contemporary art at the Villa Medici, returns with the French artist Caroline Mesquita. In resonance with the figures present in the gardens and galleries of the Villa Medici, the artist proposes a selection of eight “masks” and three video creations featuring characters on a path between men and machines.
