On March 8 2023, the violinist Marina Chiche, currently in residence at Villa Medici, offers Violino Sola, a journey around writing for solo violin. She interweaves narrative in French and play, making us (re)discover a work by the Finnish woman composer Kaija Saariaho, but also the repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach and Eugène Ysaÿe.

Revealed to the public thanks to the Victoires de la musique classique and her recordings, Marina Chiche pursues an international career in chamber music and as a soloist accompanied by her Giuseppe Gagliano violin from 1762. An artist committed to her time, she works, with her book Musiciennes de légende (First/Radio France editions) and her column in “C’est encore Nous!” on France Inter, to make classical music accessible to the greatest number of people.

As part of her residency at Villa Medici, Marina Chiche, as a musician but also as a musicologist and author, is going through the Academy’s archives to unearth the works of the women composers who won the Prix de Rome.

After her performance at Villa Medici, Marina Chiche will hold a book signing for her book Musiciennes de légende, in partnership with the Libreria Stendhal – Librairie française de Rome. On March 2, Marina Chiche will also offer a presentation of her book at the Libreria Stendhal.
