After a 2021 edition that attracted nearly 5,000 visitors, the Nuit Blanche returns to Villa Medici on Thursday 17 November to honour the work of the sixteen fellows, as well as of a resident and a guest artist of the French Academy in Rome. From visual arts to stage direction, via art history, cinema, musical composition, literature or choreography, the dialogue between artistic practices is at the heart of this highlight of the cultural season.

An event dedicated to contemporary creation, the Nuit Blanche takes visitors on a nocturnal stroll through the gardens and historic spaces of Villa Medici, some of which are open to the public on a temporary basis. Many artistic projects have been designed in close connection with the history and architecture of Villa Medici, encouraging a dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation.

The circuit is an opportunity for Rome’s public to meet the fellows who began their one-year creative and experimental residency at Villa Medici in September 2022.

The Nuit Blanche offers a sample of their research in a variety of forms – visual works, exhibitions, sound productions – and thus provides a space for the development of their residency projects over time, with the support of curator Saverio Verini.

Between the poetic and political dimensions, Nuit Blanche 2022 also gives pride of place to video projections and live performances, in keeping with the ephemeral and vibrant nature of the event.
